The Art of Perfumery - A perfumery course led by Laura Bosetti Tonatto: an immersive journey through fragrance, history and the art of perfume creation.
On 31 October 2026, FOROF will host an exclusive perfumery course conceived and led by renowned ‘nose’ Laura Bosetti Tonatto, offering an immersive journey into the culture of perfume, the language of fragrance and the excellence of olfactory artistry.
Laura Bosetti Tonatto, one of the most authoritative figures in international artistic perfumery and a pioneer of bespoke fragrance in Italy, celebrates 40 years of her career by offering fragrance enthusiasts the opportunity to experience something truly unique in the heart of Rome.
At FOROF - where the fascination of ancient history meets contemporary art - the renowned ‘nose’ will lead a perfumery course retracing decades of study, research and creativity: an intense and engaging day during which participants will discover how to select and harmonise essences, understand the principles of olfactory composition, and experience the creation of a personal fragrance, from its initial inspiration to its final realisation, guided by a professional who knows every nuance of the craft in depth.
From theory to practice, the course will culminate in a guided fragrance creation workshop, giving each participant the opportunity to explore their own aptitude for olfactory - and communicative - composition. At the end of the course, participants will receive a certificate of attendance.
A special highlight of the day will be a guided tour of FOROF, the place that inspired one of Laura Bosetti Tonatto’s creations: FOROF ESSENZA, dedicated to the fragrances of ancient Rome - rose, amber, incense and saffron - and conceived to evoke, through olfactory memory, the identity and history of this extraordinary place, where, more than 2,000 years ago, the rite of manumissio - the liberation of enslaved people - was celebrated.
The visit will include the archaeological site, the site-specific contemporary art exhibition featuring Saudi artist Sarah Brahim, a screening of Andrea Purgatori’s documentary film Optimus Princeps, the 3D video reconstruction of Trajan’s Forum and, finally, the olfactory journey conceived and created by Laura Bosetti Tonatto.
The sense of smell, an ancestral sense deeply connected to memory, thus becomes a tool for evoking the past and bringing to life, through fragrance, the memory of a place that continues to live in the present.
